Changi Village On A Weekday

One Wednesday afternoon after class, we, A-Team decided to take the 59 from Bishan interchange all the way to Changi Village to get us some Nasi Lemak and Nasi Ayam Penyet that it's so famous for. But before that, we went to Popular to get some items for the exhibition.

Colours, we were disagreeing on the colours!

I was thinking florescent pink and Farid blue..

Farid sulking, in his head he was probably thinking, "I want blue.. BLUE!"

And here is Cas, shopping for Christmas cards while we were on the job.. tut tut
Me looking all fiery and all.. where are the boys?! This items are heavy! No gentlemen's in our group!
Paying for the items.. Now here's a story. I didn't bring my Popular card, so suddenly someone tapped me from behind and all I saw was this Popular card. Was I dreaming? No, apparently there was this lady behind me who gave me her card so we had a discount off the items! Merci madame!

The reciept. It was so much cheaper with discount!

Next we went to the interchange and got on 59. It was one long ride of falling asleep, gazing out the windows and just pretty boring long bus journey stuff.

Here are some shots on the way..
I thought this photograph looked particularly cool in some sort of way.
I was down, sulking and maybe sleeping while Cas and Darius hammed it out for the camera. Farid's expression is unknown.

Darius kept saying and I quote, "ARE WE THERE YET? I WANT TO NOMNOMNOM!"

Just kidding. He was probably just posing for the camera.
After perhaps an hour or more, our bus finally pulled up right outside the food center. We walked over to blk 3.
The queue at the nasi lemak stall! It was a weekday!
Finally Cas got her nasi lemak..
H ere's a picture of the nasi lemak.
Now some people think that this dish is to die for, but Cas felt that it was just normal.
So perhaps the wait for the nasi lemak is not that worth the buzz?

Next up, we went to the nasi ayam penyet stall just across located at blk 2.

As seen on television.
H ere we are at the stall. There wasn't a queue (lucky us), but according to Farid, there can be a queue so long on weekends that there isn't even space for people to dine indoor's. They have to take the food else where to eat.
Here's the store assistant preparing our food.
When we asked to take photographs he gave us this ready took photographs.. guess we aren't the first!
And our food arrives..
This is the best chicken, and the sauce was awesome. Rice was fragrant and just the right texture. Soup just completes the whole dish. One word, Perfection.
Digging in! Farid was describing how the dish is made, but all I remembered was this dish called "the hammered chicken"
Darius and Farid eating in silence, so focus and serious.
Attacking the chicken.
The above are materials we have purchase for our Lifeskills exhibition that's next up in our calender. We hope you have drooled one too many times over our ambrosial photographs but unfortunately we have come to the end of our food finding journey and we must thank all you readers for your avid support. Au revoir!

Jalan Kayu For Prata's!

This Saturday we found ourselves standing in the sweltering weather at Jalan Kayu.
These bikes must be roasting in the heat!
And here we arrive at Thasevi Food stall. It was already packed to the brim in the AM.
Made opened 24 hour for the convenience of residence, so that they can have a good prata feast whenever they feel like it.
Farid and Fahrul checking out the menu.... and the prices.
The indian rojak selection.

And we decided to dine elsewhere because the price was not right with our pockets. So we wandered down the road in search of a better stall with the better price..

After walking for a bit, we found a place and settle down happily. We were perspiring from the weather and how nice it was when we discover this stall offered shade under the big lush green tent.

We wasted no time and made our orders.

Six of us and we ordered alot of prata's and nann's.
Here's afiq's nann
Fahrul and Farid, they had the banana, mushroom, bomb prata's.

Here's a laugh. Cas asked "What's a bomb prata? When you eat then got BOMB is it?"

Afiq looks interested in Farid prata's, greedy much!

End of prata eating session. Stuffed, satisfied and just wanting to get out of that horrible weather!

Till next time! Au revoir!

Hunting For Food On A Rainy Saturday Morning

Last Saturday, we saw ourselves gathered at Toa Payoh Mrt at 11 am in the morning. It begun to rain just as we started setting out to find a bak kut teh stall at blk 177. After wondering through the maze for perhaps an eternity, we found out that the store had moved.

Lucky for us, Farid had done his research and so we proceeded to look for this famous dry ban mian stall located at (address). Braving through the bad weather we eventually found the stall...

There was a lot of customers and the place was packed. Looking around it was quite obvious what the customers came here for.

A bit of information on what we are having today. Ban Mian or 手工板面 actually means handmade noodles but here hawkers use hand-operated machine in the stall which forms noodles from the dough. The dish is usually served in soup,  with pieces of minced chicken or minced pork, ikan bilis, vegetables, and an egg, and also commonly comes with sliced mushrooms.

Anyhow, we found a place - lucky us - and went to order our food. I couldn't wait to eat. This was not halal so our team members, Afiq, Farid and Fahrul couldn't eat it.

Casandra ordered the Mee hoon kuey tang/soup and me Mee hoon kuey gan/dry.

Here's Casandra having here bowl of noodles!

Here's me, can't wait to dig in, it smelled so nice. When I took my first bite I thought this was really good. And it stayed the same way till the last bite. The noodles weren't too soggy or dried out. The noodles weren't too hard or too soft. Excellent dish and about SG $3. Affordable and tasty.

Here's a picture of the noodles, The dried noodles came with soup too.

Look at the noodles, I am craving for it just looking at the image!

Darius decided to order this plate of Popiah.
Really nice too. The skin wasn't too soggy, ingredients were fresh and the chili sauce packed a real fiery kick.
The interior of a popiah consist's basically of : vegetables, meat and thinly shredded omelet
Yes, here's Darius with his mouth full and eyes closed. Picturing heaven perhaps?
We were in Toa Payoh, yes the weather had cleared. You can see the wet floors from the rain.
Next stop on the way to the famous rojak at TPY HDB Hub's basement food court.

Just look at the queue!!!
Here's a picture of Farid queuing up! No wait no food!
While Farid was queuing, we looked to the side of the stall and saw all this articles of celebrities promoting this stall. Awesome stuff.
And finally ............................................

WE HAVE ROJAK!
And after less than 5 minutes ...........

Culprit, Farid. Guilty of finishing all the rojak without sharing.

And that was pretty much all the hunting we did last Saturday!
Stay tuned for more!
